To all black women (and men)

From the bottom of my heart I want to sincerely thank you. While there are a million things I want to thank you for this time it’s for making sure a pedophile like Roy Moore wasn’t elected as Alabama senator. I almost lost all hope when Trump was elected as president but even then you guys tried to save us all. This past year has been rough. I felt pissed that a sexual predator was president, hundreds of people were killed in yet another deadly mass shooting with no reform, and finally a racist pedophile running for senator. The fact that the president of the United States and the Republican Party were willing to stand behind a pedophile showed the world how evil we have become. But more than anger I felt hopeless, because child abuse robbed me of my childhood and left me with scars that I have yet to come to terms with. Those woman who were pried upon by Roy Moore as teenagers were labeled as ” trouble makers” and attention seekers. It felt like a slap to the face yet you guys once again stood up to shut down the bull shit, 98% of black woman and 93% of black men voted for Doug Jones.

Like everyone else I was overwhelmed with gratitude for everything you’ve done. You guys are often dismissed as “angry” or ” crazy” for speaking up. Seen as “ungrateful” or ” uneducated” when you fight for justice against inequality. You guys are hyper sexualized but also criticized for the very same thing. Black women are always forgotten from the conversations and erased from history, but you still stand so strong and proud that I’m forever empowered by you. Thank you for reminding me that we can’t give up. Thank you for giving me hope. Thank you for showing us what strength looks like. Thank you for bring your strong beautiful selves. Thank you for being our warrior women. I will forever stand in solidarity with you. I will continue to fight for you just the way you have been fighting for us. Today all I can say is thank you and sorry for everything you have gone through but I hope we can make a better future for you and your children.
